Gabarre "Le Vézère" at Terrasson-Lavilledieu
The first town in the Dordogne traversed by the Vézère river, Terrasson welcomes you on board the "Le Vézère", a covered boat with 30 seats, every year from May to September.
Alternating commentaries with moments of pure tranquillity, your guide will take you along the water, and back in time and by recounting to you the history of the Vézère River and its gabarriers (bargemen).
On board the gabarre "Le Vézère", you will discover that in Périgord, economic prosperity was built around, and thanks to, the river. The area around Terrasson provided an abundance of table wine before the great phylloxera crisis. The last barges stopped operating in Terrasson in 1937 in the face of fierce competition from the railway.
Your discovery trip will also offer you a different view of the old town and the natural heritage of the River Vézère.
Afterwards, you will be eager to explore the ramparts, the streets and alleyways of the town and the "Jardins de l'Imaginaire".
